The procalcitonin/inerleukin-6 test kit is suitable for quantitative detection of concentration of procalcitonin (PCT) and interleukin 6 (IL 6) in human whole blood/serum/plasma sample in vitro, which is mainly used for auxiliary diagnosis of bacterial infection. The test result should be analyzed in combination with other clinical information.
Description
PCT is a hormone inactive calcitonin propeptide substance, which consists of 116 amino acids and has molecular weight of approx. 13 kD glycoprotein. PCT has excellent in vivo stability, and it's encoded by single copy gene located on the chromosome 11 (11P15, 4).
Interleukin 6 is a polypeptide that consists of two glycoprotein chains, which has molecular weight of 130kd. As an important member of cytokine network, interleukin 6 (IL 6) plays a central role in acute inflammatory reaction, it can mediate acute phase reaction of liver, and stimulate production of C reactive (CRP) and fibrinogen. Many infectious diseases may lead to rise in serum IL 6 level, and IL 6 level is closely associated with patient outcomes.
